They original story that came into my inbox thanks to those jolly nice people at Google News Alerts was that:

But of course they are not anything of the sort. Carl confirms that the photographs are of a dog footprint, and that the shape of the claws, the depth and deposition of the pads and it the shape of the toes are totally diagnostic of a canid.
